A next-generation autonomous tug improves safety and production efficiency while moving aircraft, work platforms, and equipment through an aviation assembly environment.
The Aviation Automated Ground Tug Vehicle is designed to move an airplane, work platforms, and equipment safely through the production line. The autonomous approach reduces operator labor while supporting precise, reliable movement of heavy production assets.
The upgraded vehicle uses a SICK Multiscan 136 3D LiDAR sensor, applying a wide field of view to detect objects as far as 60 meters away. A magnetic line sensor follows a path embedded in the floor and helps the tug navigate intersections accurately.
Twelve onboard batteries produce approximately 144 VDC, replacing the shore-power arrangement used by the earlier model. Removing the trailing power connection improves mobility and reduces a potential point of failure during transport.
EDCO, Inc. led the mechanical manufacturing while Systems Interface delivered the controls and system integration. The completed AGTV combines autonomous navigation, obstacle detection, and onboard power to improve safety and efficiency on a busy aviation production floor.
